Although relatively close to Manuel Antonio and near the Jaco area, this biodiversity reserve and nature sanctuary is dramatically different in terms of flora and fauna than our national park in Manuel Antonio. Enjoy a relaxing hike for a few hours through the seasonal transitional wet-dry forest with meandering ecosystems, a forest in a state of secondary gallery forest with patches of primary forest, accompanied by a well-educated, bilingual, nature-loving naturalist and passionate birder.
Unlike Manuel Antonio National Park, you will see magnificent scarlet macaws, as well as extraordinary crocodiles found under the Tárcoles River Bridge adjacent to Carara Park. For bird lovers the Jacamar, wild guans, toucans, trogons and mot mot will be part of the menu to enjoy capturing with your camera lenses or phones. The drive to and from Carara will be an experience in itself as you pass African palm oil plantations, rice fields, cattle ranches and local villages along the way.
